The very first time I set foot on the Salvation Taco Rooftop, and every time since, I’ve been wowed. It has a robust thematic vibe that makes you feel like the elevator ride up there through the Pod 39 Hotel teleported you out of the city to a sort of Narnia (wait, was that an elevator or a wardrobe?)—an urban Narnia that, albeit, feels more like an urban take on the Roman Forum. You see, this rooftop bar is encapsulated by more than a story high terra-cotta colored columns that are linked together by brick façades with ivy taking over it I Am Legend style. Between these columns you have wrap around views of Manhattan, it’s breathtaking every time.

Most recently, I went there with my girlfriends Molly and Dara for a ladies happy hour and it is surely safe to say that we did our due diligence and tested out the cocktails. I report back saying that I love their Frozen Watermelon Margherita. At one point, as we sat there drinking our dranks, I looked up from the hilarious conversation we were having (or that’s how drunken me remembers it) and noticed that we were surrounded by suit after suit after suit with a couple of sundresses sprinkled in there. One suit was ox blood head to toe—get ‘em, dude! That’s to say, if you’re looking for a rooftop bar with that after work vibe so you don’t feel out of place in your suit or pencil skirt and blouse, this is a great choice. Also, there were lots and lots of guys. I’m not sure if that’s the regular clientele but my single ladies, you know where to go! FYI, it should be said, I was there in shorts and a tank and didn’t feel out of place so don’t feel like you have to run home and change into your Ann Taylor looks before making your way over.

While you’re there, order the Chicken Chinga tacos and some chips and guac for sure! Beyond balancing out the boozy awesomeness of the cocktails, they are super yummy! They are bar bite sized, so I recommend making a mental note that you’ll be ordering a couple of rounds. Enjoy urban Narnia!
