The Garment District's Rooftop Bars And More You Need To Know About
I officially understand why superheroes are always hanging out on Manhattan's rooftops. Visit these rooftop bars and you'll so get it, too. HA! Ok, ok. In all seriousness, if you're looking level up your nightlife, you so need to check out the rooftop bars in the Garment District. They're gorgeous—each with a better Empire State Building clad skyline view than the last! Best part, which I so hadn't thought about before making all of these visits myself is that the Garment District is centrally located North, South, East, and West which makes it the perfect meeting point for everyone!
PS. I know rooftops feel like a very warm weather kinda experience but all of these become enclosed in the cooler weather so you can still go, drink, and enjoy NYC from up above it all.
Castell Rooftop Lounge
260 West 40th Street, New York, New York 10018 USA
You’ve just found that new bar (depending on when you are reading this) in the sky that strikes the perfect balance between sophisticated and trendy—so my style! With thoughtful upscale cocktails and a great menu, this is the rooftop lounge you didn’t know you were waiting for. Plus the view’s not too shabby either!
485 7th Ave. New York, NY 10018
It's not all fun and games—or, like they say at the almost end of Super Mario Brothers—"or is it?" You know how cartoon movies these days are advertised for kids and then have all those dirty jokes for us adults? That's the playful kinda feel Magic Hour has. You see, they have teddy bear topiary (in sex positions), bunny rabbit (a la nude Jessica Rabbit) themed putt-putt course, a carousel (sans the ponies and outfitted with benches for spinning while you booze)—it's my kinda carnival! If you're looking for the perfect play-date, this is the place you need to be!
63 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018
With award-winning skyline views and amazing food and cocktail menus—their lunch dishes include a Grilled Octopus Sliders and the Pulled Pork Confit Pretzel Sandwich, need I say more?—this upscale, industrial-chic rooftop bar is open all day (from 11:30AM - 1 AM and opens at 10AM for brunch on weekends). Go for the eats and stay for the Refinery Rooftop nightlife experience where you're enveloped by the glow of hanging lights while gazing out on a panoramic view of Manhattan's skyline doing the same.
Insider's Tip: Get in the door early or be mentally prepared to queue up in line outside because this awesome rooftop bar is a secret to no New Yorker.
47 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018
For a more intimate experience with an air of sophistication, you have to check out the luxurious Spyglass rooftop bar. With an refined 1940's inspired deep purple, dark blue, and black decor, bar snacks and truly unique cocktails, it's the place to be. Ooh, and if you're looking to host a private event with a killer view, this is the rooftop to reach out to. Rent out the whole space or their private room with its own outdoor space.
200 W 39th St, New York, NY 10018
If you're looking to take in a beautiful metropolitan sunset, The Skylark's panoramic view is epic! Sit back, order as many of their delicious small bites and cocktails as you can handle and take in the sunset—it's a sight to be seen. When I went, I sat with a girlfriend on our own private couched area. On the couches directly across from us was Spike Lee. Now, I don't know his thoughts on the space but he sat there for hours just like we did. It's fair to say, no one wanted to leave this neighborhood gem.
Insider's Tip: make a reservation for a table outside. It's really difficult to get a seat anywhere in this bar if you don't.

If miraculously you managed to escape work early and are too hungry to wait until the rooftop bar you are planning to go to opens, I have the perfect fix to hold you over—that is if you can force yourself to only order one thing. Urbanspace markets are all over the city and the Garment District is no exception.
