Located in an unassuming townhouse in the West Village Casa Apicii is a hidden gem. The perfect modern Italian restaurant for when you absolutely need to splurge. Dim and cozy, the bar’s lush velvet chairs and sleek bar open to a spacious dining room where all your pasta dreams are about to come true.
The sizzling eggplant parm in a mini cast iron skillet was delicate and flavorful. House-made butternut squash ravioli was rich and offset with bitter radicchio, toasted walnuts in brown butter sauce and crispy sage.
Can anyone refuse perfectly cooked pasta with truffles? Especially when those black truffles are hand shaved by the chef, starched whites and all, table-side? I certainly can’t.
The surprising winner? A vegetarian mushroom Bolognese with hand-made tagliatelle that stole our hearts and possibly our waistlines.
Casa Apicii is hosting the chefs from Casa Del Sogno in Italy’s Amalfi Coast. Unlike Jay Z and Beyonce, both fans, you don’t need a private yacht to treat yourself. CasaApicii feels like a refuge from the world. Save your pennies for a whole meal or sit at the bar for an early evening aperitif and feel like a celeb.
