Harold's Meat + Three

From esteemed award winning chef Harold Moore, formerly of Montrachet and Commerce, Harold’s Meat + Three is the only reason I can condone getting off the train at Canal Street, pushing through even pushier people forcing discounted Gucci’s and walking to what feels like the middle of nowhere. Situated inside the Renwick Hotel, HM3 has both indoor and outdoor spaces. Looking around, I began to feel like I was in an embellished take on the extension of the kitchen, perhaps the pantry. Starting from the open kitchen lined with hanging pots and pans with a roaring fire and moving through the space, I noted the exposed shelves lining the walls holding mugs, sauces and wine; the wooden bar area is even lined with the same shelves, only there they carry liquor and a mix of glassware; and I can’t skip over the the meat fridge holding, well, an assortment of meats. Somehow, the space is both trendy and homey. The epitome of which is noted in the denim napkins stationed out on each table.

Where the food is South X NYC, there is more than “something for everyone”. There’s the dangerously delicious cheesy biscuits and the crispy golden Fried Chicken with your choice of three sides—my vote goes to the Macaroni + Cheese with the crisps. Then there’s the healthier customizable HM3 Market Bowl that starts with a base of your choosing—quinoa, Japanese rice or spinach—and builds from there. This is totally one of those restaurants where I recommend going with a few friends, ordering a bunch and sharing it all because you absolutely need to try it all!
