Call me crazy, but the one thing I’ve been searching for while being here in the city is an unknown underground club where the only way in is through a secret passcode. You know — like those super cool hidden spots that only the true New York locals know about, where the entrance is hidden behind what seems to be a totally normal storefront. Or the kind of bars you’d only see in the wildest ‘How I Met Your Mother’ episodes.

Just when I had given up all hope for finding my own personal underground speakeasy escape, Taco Electrico appears in the heart of Union Square. It was unexpected and magical to say the least, as most happy incidents are. No secret passcode required whatsoever! Walking down the stairs to taco heaven, I was not expecting to see such a beautiful space, the ambiance alone is worth 5 stars. Picture cool, dark, dungeon vibes (but in the best way imaginable) and neon! Lots and lots of neon lights.

The drink menu was superb, filled with lots of different cocktails that celebrate the iconic Mexican spirit we all know and love. I’m not ashamed to say that I chugged down their housemade Horchatas like they were water. The food was just as fantastic as the atmosphere! What kind of person would I be if I didn’t order chips and guac? I also did you the favor of trying every single taco on the menu — for research. I’m happy to report that each one of them was one-of-a-kind. My personal favorite was the Pescado, Baja Style taco, but you can’t go wrong in choosing anything from the menu.

I’ve been told that Thursday nights are the most fun, the space transforms and becomes the lively bar of my dreams! Add Taco Electrico to your list of ‘must-try’ places, you won’t regret coming to this one.
