If you’re looking for that effortlessly trendy SoHo neighborhood spot with a laid-back LA vibe that’s open all day, you’ve just found it! Now, I’m going to drop the “V” word, but please please please don’t close this browser window in a fearful exodus. West~Bourne serves up fresh eats that are technically vegetarian but the second your teeth sink in you with do one of two things—debate going vegetarian OR forget that you’re in a vegetarian restaurant. It’s not a menu comprised of seitan, tofu and a slew of other weirdly named ingredients that you didn’t know existed. Honestly, if all vegetarian food tasted like this, I’d strongly consider going vegetarian.
Super chill and incredibly kind owner Camilla Marcus, with a killer resume where she formerly worked at Dell’anima, Riverpark and Union Square Cafe has put together an incredibly thoughtful menu of delicious eats with playful names like Brussels + Flow and Center Your Chia. It’s kinda hard to pick a favorite dish, but—gun to head—I’m going with the Sunrise Kingdom English muffin breakfast sandwich loaded with scrambled eggs, avocado, spicy labneh, and pickled onions. It has a comfort food homey feel that I’d happily start any morning with. YUM!
If you’re going the bright and healthy route, their grain bowls like the Over The Rainbowl comprised of brown basmati rice, lentil falafel, sweet potatoes, broccoli, kale, pickled beets, and jalapeno tahini is a must! It’s easy AF to F up falafel so maybe you think you hate it BUT if you want to have it the way it’s supposed to taste just to make sure, West~Bourne is your place to do just that! I wanted to order a second order of them to-go so I could eat them again for dinner.
Go to West~Bourne for lunch, nab a cup of their fantastic cold brew, kick back and let your stomach be teleported to LA for an hour or so.
