Challah French Toast

I know a lot of my recipes are unique takes on a lot of dishes, but I'm sure there are times where you crave the classics. So, here's one of my absolute faves. You simply can't beat a classic homemade challah french toast! It's pretty much a fact.


TIME

PREP TIME: 5 minutes

COOK TIME: 12 minutes

TOTAL TIME: 17 minutes

INGREDIENTS

Challah (1 loaf, cut into 3/4 inch slices)

Eggs (6)

Whole Milk (1 cup)

Pure Vanilla Extract (1 tsp)

Cinnamon (1 1/4 tsp)

Nutmeg (1/8 tsp)

Salt (pinch)

Unsalted Butter (for greasing pan)

Vermont Maple Syrup (for topping)



KITCHEN ITEMS

Large Mixing Bowl

Whisk

Cutting Board

Chefs Knife

Large Frying Pan (I used my 12" cast iron skillet for even heating)

TO MAKE YOUR EGG MIXTURE. in your mixing bowl, whisk together your eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

Individually, take each slice of challah and dip it in your egg mixture. Flip it dip it again to make sure the challah is fully soaking up your egg mixture.

 

TO COOK YOUR FRENCH TOAST. coat your frying pan with butter over high heat. You will have to recoat your pan with more butter between each batch.

Lay 2-3 slices of your dredged challah onto your hot pan. Cook for 2 minutes, flip, and cook for another 2 minutes.  Repeat this process until all of your challah is cooked.

Serve hot with maple syrup.
