MIDNIGHT MOON MANHATTAN

MIDNIGHT MOON MANHATTAN

MANHATTAN COCKTAIL … it’s spooky how good this is.

If I were a witch, this would be my brew. Think of it as a shadowy spin on the classic Manhattan, this cocktail leans into its dark side with rich Amaro, sultry black cherry syrup, and that rye whiskey bite we all know and love. It’s the kind of drink you pull out when the darkness of night is illuminated by candlelight, and a full moon lights the sky … or really any Saturday night.

Instructions

TO MAKE THE BLACK CHERRY SYRUP
  1. FYI. This yields 3 ounces which is enough for 6–8 cocktails.
  2. Combine the syrup from your black cherries, water, dark brown sugar in a small saucepan. Simmer gently over low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
  4. Refrigerate for up to two weeks.
FOR THE COCKTAIL
  1. Chill a coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer.
  2. In a mixing glass filled with ice, combine the rye whiskey, averna amaro, black cherry syrup, and angastora bitters. Stir for twenty-five to thirty seconds, until well chilled and silky smooth.
  3. Place the ice sphere into your chilled glass.
  4. Strain the cocktail over the sphere.
  5. Garnish with a single black cherry on the ice for a minimalist feel.
