NETFLIX AND CHIL-I

I like to use my social accounts to pose questions to you all and get a sense of what it is you’re interested in eating. My girl Jen sent along a great list which included chili which just so happened to be on my mind too. The very next day, this deliciousness happened (followed by binge tv watching only pausing so I could run to get seconds and thirds). DELISH!

Instructions

TO MAKE YOUR TURKEY CHILI
  1. Over high heat, heat 1 1/2 tbsp of olive oil in your stockpot.
  2. Add in your ground turkey and use your wooden spoon to consistently mix it, making sure to break down any clumps, until it’s fully cooked with a little browning—about 5 minutes.
  3. Add in your potatoes, onions, garlic, red pepper, celery, chili pepper, and jalapeño.
  4. Mix for 5 minutes.
  5. Add your diced tomatoes.
  6. Pour in your chicken stock.
  7. Add your kidney beans.
  8. Add in your bay leaf, chili powder, ancho chili powder, nutmeg, and cumin.
  9. Mix it all together.
  10. Bring it all to a boil and then turn it down to medium to simmer.
  11. Let cook for at least 50 more minutes. If you really want the flavors to meld well, let it go a little longer.
  12. Salt and pepper to taste. If you feel like you need any more of the earlier seasonings, this is a good time to add them.
TO BOWL YOUR TURKEY CHILI
  1. Scoop chili into bowls.
  2. Sprinkle on your desired amount of cheddar cheese. (don’t skip this part. LOVE the layer of flavor complexity that this simple addition adds)
  3. Slice your avocado halves into 1/4 inch slices while making sure to keep the pieces together to maintain the overall avocado half shape.
  4. Squeeze a little lime over your avocado.
  5. Season your avocado with salt and pepper.
  6. Sprinkle on your black sesame seeds.
  7. Gently press half of your avocado into each bowl.
  8. Garnish with a couple of lime wedges that can be squeezed on to the eater’s liking and serve!
